You are calm and reposed, let your beauty unfold

Who are your top ten favourite characters from fiction across all of the media's - film, tv, books, manga, anime, you name it, as long as it's made up. Take some time with this. If you think about all of your favourite stories you might find you have dozens of characters you want to be here.

10. Cartoonhead

Posted Image

As one of the earliest villains and a frequent menace in the British sitcom Ideal, Cartoonhead makes it in my list for being so deeply sinister and surreal for a show set in the underbelly of British society. By wearing the mask and never speaking, this gangster and hitman communicates through head movements and hand gestures, allowing this Deadmau5 lookalike to create both comedy and chills through his mysterious nature and lethal intentions.

9. Scarecrow

Posted Image

As a paranoid person who suffered from sleep paralysis, fear is a very frequent thing for me, and the idea of not only conquering it but becoming its master holds an element of grotesque glamour for me. Enter Scarecrow, one of Batman's longest running and most popular villains. My fanboy obsession with Doctor Crane lasted longer than any other than my first choice further down the list.

8. Zaraki Kenpachi

Posted Image

My only manga/anime sourced entry, Kenpachi really is just the *****. As a manifestation of power for entertainments sake and of just enjoying being incredibly powerful, there are few characters I know of that can top him; he lives to fight because he likes fighting, and he does it brilliantly. He also has the added bonus of being possibly the only character in the Bleach anime to make fights fun to watch, because he has little power other than what he can throw behind his sword so they tend to be quicker and more hardcore.

7. Lord Loss

No picture for this character, because as far as I am concerned not a single picture, by publisher or fan, has caught the majesty and horror of this character. Which is fair enough: an 8 armed, pale demon with shredded, stumpy legs who floats along the ground, with a hundred thousand constantly bleeding cuts along his skin, and a hole where his heart should be filled with writhing snakes, must be hard to draw. From the OTT description, you may think that this character's creator was trying too hard to be scary - however, contrast the appearance with the grief-stricken and lonely but terrible and cruel persona of the character, and he really takes on a life that is more than just a cheap attempt at scaring the younger audience of Darren Shan' Demonata books. In the centre of the web, Lonely Lord Loss torments the Dead.

6. Tyler Durden

Posted Image

One of the most charismatic and enigmatic characters in film history, combining wit, looks and know-how into a wholly admirable package, Tyler Durden of Fight Club, is just undeiably cool. Not much more to say really. He's just... so cool.

5. Jack Donaghy

Posted Image

Alec Baldwin's show-stealing performance in an otherwise ensemble cast places Jack Donaghy of 30 Rock pretty high in my esteem, and list. As with Durden above, he just radiates cool, and is consistantly the funniest character in my favourite show. One day I'm going to put my suit on and never, ever take it off, and I shall demand that the world from then on knows me as Jack Donaghy.

4. Saruman

Posted Image

Quite possibly just the voice that does it. Yep, it's the voice. The sheer authority of this character, as well as the very depth of his villainy as a traitor to a cause he was the very spearhead of as the head of the White Council, Saruman of The Lord of the Rings is more than just a villain: he provides a great deal of the stories bigger messages. His oft neglected and, worse, criticized climax during the Scouring of the Shire towards the very end of the trilogy was possibly one of the most potent messages of the entire story: war effects all, and even by winning it you cannot protect that which you would want to.

3. Grimgor Ironhide

Posted Image

I don't know if my judgement is clouded on this because this Warhammer character has helped me win more battles that I can count in the tabletop battle game, but I love his character as much as his ability to win me battles against my friends. A walking, brooding force of nature is the best way to describe this guy, an Orc Warlord capable of levelling nations with his armies if he could get them to follow orders better, and if he himself wasn't easily lured off target by suggestions of bigger, better fights elsewhere. Where Grimgor walks, the world trembles.

2. Scar

Posted Image

I don't really know what to say, I think I've covered elsewhere how much I love this character (see the Create a Club section for a good indicator), because he was the character that really made me turn my attention towards antagonists as being the real stars of almost any show. Look up: most of those on my list are baddies, and I accredit that to The Lion King, and mostly to Scar.

1. Tigerstar

Posted Image

Now THIS is a character that I doubt anyone will know, but this, my second feline entree, is my favourite fictional character of all time. This cat, the antagonist from the childrens book series Warriors (which I still read) built upon the impression made by Scar: after basically falling in fanboyship for Tigerstar in my early teens, I didn't just want to just like antagonists, I wanted to write about them, I wanted to get inside their heads, and share my own mad evilness with people in literary form. This character from one book series made a bigger impression upon my imagination than any other in all of fiction.

_________________________________________

Wow. This is one hell of a post. Sorry for making a wall of text, I might edit this down a bit later, since it looks more like a blog than a post haha. Anyway, I implore people to share their own lists, and if possible to put as much effort into it as I did. :P

Better than Red.

10. Captain Jack Sparrow
A brilliant character, hilarious, and according to every girl I know, one of the most attractive men alive.

9. Niles Crane
I don't know why I love this guy, I just do.

8. Kel Kimble
I grew up watching Kenan and Kel. The man brought us classic quotes. Who loves orange soda? Kel loves orange soda. Is it true? Mmmmhhhmmmmmm. I do, I do, I doooooooo.
I PUT THE SCREW IN THE TUNA.
And of course, the legendary (see below):
Awwwww, here it goes.

7. Patrick Jane
This guy is just, there are no words.

6. Barney Stinson
This guy is legen....wait for it.....dary.

5. Janitor
"Well that’s funny… cause we were bowling the other night and he say’s 'Man, no one EVER says my name right.'" I said 'Muh, you got two bigger problems than that, and one of them is that 7-10 split you left for yourself and the other one is how about trying to write a movie without a big twist ending?' Well, he took offense, got pissy, wouldn’t talk to me for a good hour. But he loosened up on the hayride."

4. Luna Lovegood
This girl is wonderfully weird, and I'm in love with the actress who plays her. Plus, she's Irish, what more could you want?

3. Maurice Moss
The character from IT Crowd, if you've never seen that show, I pity you, the man is just hilarious. The second most hilarious character on this list.

2. Chandler Bing
And this is the first, for 10 whole years he was hilarious, the socially awkward single child Chandler Bing. Only just pipped to the post by one man, or 11 men, but he was almost there.

1. The Doctor
Could there be anybody else? The Doctor is the greatest creation in history.

I do realise that all these characters are from tv/film, but these are my favourites.

This gonna be a tough one.

10.

Trunks

Funny that he'd be this low on the list. But out of Fictional Characters he's lower down the list. He's boldness, smarts, and power and individuality is what got Trunks to this list.

9.

Posted Image

Jason Voorhees

The man behind the mask. No one scared me more during my young years. I do remember though having a great great fanaticism about him. So much that I would get he's movies and get movies.

8.

Posted Image

Forrest Gump

One of the most spectacular movies I've ever had the chance to watch. This character is too much to word in a two sentence comment. I'll just say "Run Forrest Run!"

7.

Posted Image

Jimmy Conway

The Greatest Mob Film of all time(Which I'm probably gonna watch again tonight due to being reminded). Robert DeNero played this character to perfection. He's personality and all around fearlessness is what mad me love this character and this move.

6.

Posted Image

Smokey

Ain't no other way I spend my Friday. Smokey was truly a CHARACTER in himself. No one could do this role better then Chris Tucker did. "We gonna get high tonight"

5.

Posted Image

John Bender

Is there any other like Bender? Can anyone get in more trouble on a Saturday afternoon like John? Who else can act arrogant, pervert, mean, and still get the girl in the end? Bender Boy makes all the school boys go "OH NOOO!!!"

4.

Posted Image

Ferris Bueller

This man made my ditching days in school a bore in comparison. I only dream to have a day such as Ferris's. He's all around awesomeness and legendness is what got him on to this list. Who can forget THEY line? Bueller? Bueller? Bueller? Anyone? Anyone?

3.

Posted Image

Benny "The Jet" Rodriquez

One of my favorite characters in any movie. I really looked up to this guy growing up. Always saw myself as wanting to do what's right no matter what. I mean who else had the balls to go up against the "Monster" and live to tell the day? The Jet that's who.

2.

Posted Image

Marty McFly

No character on this list is quite has unique as Marty. He's entire demeanor displays this. From going on goose chase hunts through time to finding enough reason not to totally scream as Doc. Marty is one cool dude. Or is it he WAS one cool dude?

Well that's it for the top 9. Here's my #1 favorite character. Shouldn't be to hard to guess now.

#1

Jack Dawson

Posted Image

From winning a "lucky" card game to falling in love with a rich girl Rose. Jack Dawson did it all. The character was done like no other. From the smooth talking to the heroic helping of others. Jack Dawson was THE man. It's only sad that we had to see a tragic ending to what is the best character ever.

9. Niles Crane
I don't know why I love this guy, I just do.
Believe it or not I would place him 12th, I was close to putting him on my list haha. I love that character too.

The Doctor... it really depends on the actor and the peisode for me. Like, I really don't like Matt Smith's Doctor or Moffat's dialogue so I've really gone off him recently, but in my favourite episodes with David Tennabnt he would be in my top three. Good choice.

Keep it up, everyone! Great responses so far!

Crazy Awesome Legend

10. Lord Zed from Power Rangers. Almost a real badass. If he had only joined in more battles then I could have put him higher. But he tended to stay on the moon and watch. Even though I'm fairly certain that the rangers would have stood no chance against him.

9. Cooke. The best Skins character ever. That cheekey grin and rebellious, anarchic attitude combined with the acting talents of the young man who played him (Jack O'Connell) and a great script mean he's in my top tend favourite characters list.

8. John Mcclane. I love his one liners and cocky attitude. He's a one man swat team too.

7. Predator. What a fantastic idea for an alien. An invisible hunter who preys on the elite warriors of human society.

6. Apocolypse. Great villain. The first known mutant. Born in Ancient Egypt, possessing unfathomable power. His schemes sometimes take place over several centuries.

5. Freddy krueger. I still have dreams about the demon who kills tennagers in their sleep.

4. Batman. He's just a man yet he fights daily battles with every kind of criminal and super villain whilst also running a multi billion dollar business.

3. Cooler. I love the way Cooler got straight into the battle instead of leaving it to his minions. It was one of the first times I had seen this happen. Then he transforms and looks amazing. Plus the immortal line "I kill when I want. The weak die and the strong survive."

2. Darth Vader. Telekinesis, enhanced strength, a lightsabre, a voice like James Earl Jones and a menacing theme tune. Vader's bad ***** to the core.

1. The Doctor. From the start of the episode, The Doctor has set his plan in motion. He seems to defeat the villains before they've even made an appearence. For this reason, he's nearly unstoppable. Even among his own race he is brillant. When near death, he can regenerate a new body. He can travel anywhere in time and space. He seems to have an intricate knowledge of just about everything. It seems the only way to beat him is to put a bullet in his head as soon as you lay eyes on him. I'd guess though that he could defeat any character from any other fiction. He's that amazing.

10. Alex DeLarge (A Clockwork Orange)

Posted Image

This man just epitomises the anti-hero. When reading the book/watching the film you're completely torn as to whether you should want to destroy him or take him into your home and give him a nice warm meal.

9. O'Brien (Nineteen Eighty-Four)

Posted Image

One of my favourite villains of all time, he represents perfectly the abject power that the Party holds over the populace and he's so complex but simple at the same time.

8. HAL 9000 (2001: A Space Odyssey

Posted Image

Another great villain, and the best depiction of robots developing consciousness and rebelling etc. The final scene of him singing is just chilling beyond measure.

7. David Brent (The Office)

Posted Image

Ricky Gervais said about him - "If you don't know a David Brent, you are a David Brent." He's a brilliantly observed character that we've all come across at some stage in our lives.

6. Percy (Thomas the Tank Engine and Friends)

Posted Image

Why I like Percy so much I have no idea. I used to love Thomas the Tank when I was little, and I still have a lot of affection for Ringo Starr for the narration but Percy's always stuck with me for some reason. He proved himself against all the top engines and is a good partner for Thomas.

5. Mr Tod (The Tale of Mr Tod)

Posted Image

He's just such a badass. Honestly, he comes to one of his multiple properties (bear in mind he's a fox), in his tweed suit, finds some badger in his house and isn't having any of it. Made a really big impression on me when I was younger.

4. Frank Booth (Blue Velvet)

Posted Image

My favourite villain of all time, he's completely insane and the scene in which he violates Isabella Rossellini's character is one of the most disturbing I've ever seen.

3. Don Vito Corleone (The Godfather)

Posted Image

He's old, slow, poorly and essentially a master criminal but he's still brilliant. He has some of the most quotable lines ever and steals the film from every other character.

2. Batman (...well...)

Posted Image

It's strange, I didn't even have any particular affection for him in my youth and it's only recently that I've really gotten into him because of Christopher Nolan's films, but he's a great character. He's someone everyone can root for and imagine themselves as.

1. Agent Dale Cooper (Twin Peaks)

Posted Image

He's adorable. Srsly. Drifted onto his Wikipedia page while looking for a pic of him, and it sums him up beautifully - "He displays an array of quirky mannerisms such as giving a 'thumbs up' when satisfied, sage-like sayings, and distinctive sense of humor along with his love for a good cherry pie and a 'damn fine cup of coffee'." What's not to love?

10.Dorian Gray(the Picture of dorian gray)
Posted Image
Dorian Gray shows life in a strange way and thats why i like him. He goes from a Innocent boy, to a corrupt man, to finaly a man who has tasted all the sins and pleasures of this world yet can never get the love he wants due to his corruption.

9.R110 ( TimeSpliters 3)
Posted Image
A really Minor Character in TimeSpliters but one that i have always enjoyed. Though he is only present and playable for about an hour, the way he played and his quite funny lines have kept him in my heart forever. Best lines were "Eat my lazer! Eat It!" and "I only wanted to be loved".

8.Professor Franken Stein(Soul Eater)
Posted Image
The best Madman Scientist there is. Stein casualy says scary and horrific things to the rest of the characters without a blink of an eye yet teaches them so much while doing so. Fun,Mad, Kicks but when it comes to fighting and hes Franken Stein, What more can i say?

7.MewTwo(Pokemon Movie)
Posted Image
First ever Pokemon Movie i saw and loved MewTwo in it from the moment he arrived. A powerful being who questions his meaning in life, Dispite him being the one of the baddies in a Childrens cartoon you can really feel for him as well as admiring his might and power.

6.Kirin (666Satan)
Posted Image
Hes the Goofy strong teacher who is one of the few characters in a manga filled with people with superpowers not to have a superpower. This makes me like him even more as he is still one of the most powerful characters you see untill later on.

5.Jack(An American Werewolf In London)
Posted Image
Jack is the most optimistic zombie ive ever seen. He speaks in such a happy voice about his horrific death while eating toast and tellling his living best friend some terrible things its almost funny in a dark and twisted way.

4.Death (Discworld Series)
Posted Image
The Angel of death who eyes are supernovas, who will meet every creature in time and likes cats. The Discworld death is the best character in the whole of the discworld series. He just wants to understand and be more like humans to the point of you really think of him more as a person than Death.

3.______(Fight Club)
Posted Image
His name isn't mentioned in the film or book but some people call him Jack. He changes from a nobody to someone who believes in himself and what hes worth. He is an amazing character and i much prefer him over Tyler Durton in fightclub,

2.GLaDOS (Portal)
Posted Image
She makes the portal game for me. Shes funny, sarcastic and is a robot. The perfect girl for a Nerd like me :)

1.bartimaeus (The bartimaeus triology)
Posted Image
The Demon with an attitude. He is middle level power which gives him the underdog factor in the series along with his sarcasim and wit which drew me to read more and more of the series. I would skip parts of the books with other guys just so i could read more about bartimaeus. I dont really like this picture of him as he is a shapeshifter and it makes him look a bit boring but its the best i've got.

I'm gonna give it a shot, wouldn't take it as read though that this is my fixed and definitive list, it'll just be 10 out of hundreds of favourites I have.

1) Gene Hunt - Life on Mars/Ashes to Ashes
2) Vegeta - DBZ
3) Oerba Yun Fang - Final Fantasy XIII
4) Blackadder - Blackadder
5) Kallen Kozuki (Stadtfeld) - Code Geass
6) Shunsui Kyouraku - Bleach
7) Lightning Farron - Final Fantasy XIII
8) Neleil Tu Orderschwanck - Bleach
9) The Cat - Red Dwarf
10) Captain Price - Call of Duty 4

There's 10, not really in any specific order, and that's not the only 10, just the first ones i thought of.
